After more than a decade of growth and evolution, we’re once again making a name change—rebranding from GMS Professional Corporation to GMS Chartered Professional Accountants Limited Liability Partnership.
This isn’t just a name change; it’s the start of a new era for our firm and services.
In 2012, we started our firm as Green, Meikle & Smith Chartered Accountants Professional Corporation. In 2017, we rebranded to GMS Professional Corporation following the resignation of one of our founding partners, Mr. Sean Smith. Now, we’re rebranding to GMS Chartered Professional Accountants Limited Liability Partnership. This new partnership structure will make it easier to expand our team and bring in new partners as we continue to grow the firm.
Our focus will continue to remain on supporting small businesses and not-for-profit (NFP) organizations as it has always been from day 1. While we will continue to provide professional compliance support to our clients, we’ve now updated our services to provide more advisory support to businesses and NFP organizations, advisory support that most organizations require to remain competitive in today’s challenging economic environment. These advisory services include:
- Small Businesses: tax planning, business process improvement, cash flow management and business insights to help you proactively manage your business and organizational operations using key performance indicators (KPI’s) that are both forward looking and backward looking.
- NFP Organizations: Design and best practice set up of accounting systems & teams; Board financial governance; design & preparation of Board Financial Reporting packages including key performance indicators (KPI’s) that will help you proactively manage your organization
As we proceed with the transition to the new name in the coming weeks, here are a few things you should know…
What’s not changing
- Our focus on small businesses and small to medium-sized NFP organizations: Our belief in small business owners and their value in the world is not changing. We know that small businesses and NFP organizations in Canada are unlike others, and we’re continuing to focus on building services and products to help small businesses and NFP organizations thrive. So, this name change doesn’t mean a change to our target audience.
- Our company values: We still believe in the initial values we set for our firm—like delivering on our promises, integrity and excellence. We have now updated these and summarized them as five core values that drive everything we do at the firm.
- Our fees: If you’re an existing client, there will be no significant change in your fees other than normal adjustments in line with inflation and increases associated with new services.
What is changing
- Our brand strategy and our visual brand identity will look slightly different as we enter this new era. And we’re adopting a new philosophy for our services to make it more valuable for small businesses and NFP organizations.
- New Engagement Contracts: Effective January 1, 2025, we will sign new engagement letters for ongoing services. We will also use this opportunity to offer you additional services aimed at adding value to your business.
Stay tuned as we take you along on this journey, and thank you for being part of our community. We’re excited to see where this new direction takes us and to continue supporting you in your business journey.
